...Just look at yourself - Going through some old photos (to "update the website") I realized there are no photos live of these mirrored works at Art + Science in Wicker park. These pieces were put up for a fundraiser for Reason to Give in November, and are currently still up. Additionally, there were 23 personal sized mirrors with quotes. I had much fun with the juxtaposition of type & reflection at a beauty/hair salon.

I Made This For You is an internal declaration that can be translated to the world outside of the artist. Through his use of repetition, Matthew Hoffman’s newest work transforms exuberant designs into quiet meditations of assurance. Working primarily in his wood shop, Hoffman uses his most recent work to form a tide break against the waves of negativity in the world around him. His wood cut shapes recreate handwriting to embody his colloquial and witty quips. The writing is light, airy, and often incorporates vibrant colors, drawing you in like shiny pieces of candy. Matthew began his career under several aliases, each with a unique medium. His elusive work under the name Sighn and his Multipolar projects were well received and allowed him to explore different materials, discern and develop his message, and hone his craft to lead him to where he is now.

A few pieces came through the studio doors from a collector in Florida, who picked up the work at an art fair in London. Giving them some much needed tlc, I noticed the date on the back - 2007. Using a single line, Sighn did a few drawings that would cut out in one motion. Drawing each piece in a different shape, and slightly different way.

Pieces are made from salvaged barn wood, and range in size and thickness.

Each piece is signed "SIGHN2010" & numbered 1/20.

The perfect fleeting message to drop in the mail for that special someone.

These 125 specialty pieces were part of an exhibition at Possible Projects Brooklyn, NY in October 2009. An exhibition card is included with each piece, additionally numbering these works 1/125 within the edition of 1 million.

Pieces have been completely coated on all sides with paint. They range from dark black to misty grey. Pieces have been randomly splattered with white dots to reflect the night sky. Each piece is quite unique.

Rumor has it, there are a few other things in the works for this draftsman...We were curious what could possibly pull him out of retirement. Don't hang his jersey on the wall just yet.

With autumn arriving, Believe Inn announces its final exhibition of 2009. The "Out Of Towners" Season wraps up with an installation by Brooklyn artist Trevor Reese. Reese will be renting a Uhaul truck, carting a site specific installation to Chicago, that has been produced in his lair under extreme secrecy. Be sure to stop by on Saturday, and share one last drink in short sleeves, saying farewell to one heck of a summer.

Letting Go of Believe Inn

The Believe Inn is proud to announce "Letting Go", a solo exhibition by the Belgium artist known as Ephameron. On an summer American art tour, she will be working at Believe Inn for the week, creating a site specific mural installation paired with various pieces shipped over for the exhibition.

Also, in conjunction with the opening, the local collective known as The Post Family, will curate the Believe Inn Gift Shop. The Post Family's mission statement sums up their efforts: "Everything is for the growth of our family members and community by supplying them with the resources and inspiration to accomplish their individual goals."

Opening this Saturday, August 29th 6-10pm.

Fluorescent ITSOK

Today is the launch of Sighn's first ITSOK color pieces. These brightly glowing fluorescents are available as a set of 5, or separately as individual pieces.

Each set of 5 is cut in numerical order. Meaning you will get to see a bit into Sighn's process, and see how different or similar 5 cuts in a row look. They are numbered between 4,191 - 4,440.

Additionally, each fluorescent is available individually. These are numbered 4,441 - 4,691.

As all ITSOK's, 1 tree will be planted for each ITSOK sold. (That means you'll be planting 5 trees with the full set).
